HiOS project members presented new results of the project at a meeting of authorities involved in the application of LARSIM. The group meets twice a year to coordinate the future development of the model. Members are German, Austrian, Swiss and French environmental agencies and minsitries responsible for flood forecast.
HiOS will be represented at two events in the spring of 2019, where it will be presenting mainly hydrodynamic model results:
- 28. – 29. March 2019: „Tag der Hydrologie“ in Karlsruhe
- 07. – 12. April 2019: European Geoscience Union General Assembly in Vienna
On 07.12.2018, the first meeting of the hydrodynamic working group took place at the LfU in Augsburg. In addition to the relevant employees in the project, this group also includes experts and decision-makers from the LfU. In addition to model-specific questions, in particular, the guidelines to be published were also discussed. In the future, the hydrodynamics meetings should take place regularly. The second meeting is scheduled for February 2019.
This year's Fall Meeting of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) was a good opportunity to present the project. Prof. Markus DIsse gave a scientific talk on the latest modeling results in the session "Urban Flooding: Data, Modeling, Rainfall and Impacts". This world's largest conference on all geo related topics furthermore more provided many opportunities for exchange and new insights. Overall, the conference was a great success for HiOS.
The second milestone meeting of HiOS took place at the TUM on October 9th 2018. The project staff informed representatives of the StMUV and LfU about the current work process and the previous results. The ongoing processes were further discussed by all participants, leading to the conclusion that additional meetings are necessary to clarify all details.
On July 19th and 20th 2018, an IT workshop related to the umbrella project Wasser Zukunft Bayern took place at the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre in Garching. The goal of this event was the exchange in terms of requirements and research data between the projects ClimEx, HiOS, HydroBITS, KLIWA, ViewBay and Wetrax+ which are funded by the Bavarian Ministry of Environment.
As a result of the seminar and workshop about heavy precipitation, which has been organized by the HiOS team and the FgHW, the editors of the critical satirical magazine „quer“ produced by the Bayerischer Rundfunk submitted an interview request to the Chair of Hydrology and River Basin Management of the TU Munich. The clip to the discussion on „Heavy Precipitation and Flash Floods“ with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Markus Disse is scheduled to be on air in the show at Thursday 14th of June 2018, 8:15 pm.
Discussion with Professor Auerswald and Dr. Seibert, TUM Chair for grassland in Weihenstephan concerning the topics flow generation, flash floods und SCS method. There was a lively exchange of experience about the simulation of hydrological processes.
The general assembly of the European Geosciences Union is the largest European conference for environmental sciences and takes place annually in Vienna. This year HiOS members contributed to the conference with a poster presentation about identified problem complexes of hydrological flash flood modelling.
In order to determine the requirements and expectations of future map users, online surveys were conducted among selected Bavarian municipalities and the Bavarian water management offices. The results of these surveys were presented on Friday at the Bavarian Environment Agency to representatives of various units. The survey results attracted great interest and were discussed extensively. A project report on the survey results will be available shortly on the homepage.
